Hi, I’m Sherry Olson.
I am a therapist and founder of Thane Therapy based in Estevan, Saskatchewan. I hold a Masters in Counselling and am a Registered Social Worker within the province (RSW #2910). My passion is walking alongside individuals and couples in order to achieve restoration of their minds, bodies and souls.
I help people acknowledge and work through the challenges associated with their mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing. In the same way a three-legged stool cannot properly remain upright with a broken or damaged leg, we as humans cannot function fully when our mental, physical and spiritual state is off balance—when one area suffers, so does the whole. And much like the stool, when we continue on our journeys without taking care of the broken parts, we go through life ‘off tilt’. When the other parts try to compensate, the whole is impacted and we run the risk of collapsing completely.
If you feel like you or your relationship is near breaking point, reconciliation and hope can be found! It is possible to repair what’s damaged and move forward with a more stable base. In fact, it’s my greatest joy in the counselling room when an individual or couple has their ‘aha moment’, discovering hope through the realization that brokenness can be mended and they can be stronger because of it.
My Approach
The individuals and couples I counsel will tell you that my friendly, caring and empathetic approach is what makes me great at what I do.
Since every client and family is as unique as their problems, I don’t use one specific method in the counselling room. Approaches I have found most useful are:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- Schema Therapy
- Solution Focused (Brief) Therapy
- Narrative Therapy
Why I’m a Therapist
I didn’t always know I wanted to be a therapist. My journey toward becoming a counsellor started when I encountered situations in life I didn’t know how to deal with. I didn’t have the right tools in my toolbox, and it was through seeing my own therapist that I gained the appropriate tools to move forward. Whether it was challenges associated with marriage, parenting and/or negative thought-patterns, I found hope through therapy.
Other personal experiences with family and friends moved me to get my degree in Social Work, and after working within many facets of the field, I determined the area of clinical Social Work was my calling. Now, after nearly a decade of helping people move forward in their own journeys, I am still excited to get up in the morning and do this. My life’s work is to equip my clients the same way my therapist equipped me.
